Code of Conduct

UPLAND AMERICAN LITTLE LEAGUE CODE OF CONDUCT

Upland American Little League (UALL) has zero tolerance for poor sportsmanship or negative behavior.

We expect all players, coaches, parents, and spectators to set a positive example at all times.

ENFORCEMENT

1.            Umpire Authority – Umpires have the final say on the field.

·  No one may argue a call.

·  Umpires handle conduct inside the fences.

·  If issues occur outside the fences, the umpire will ask the team manager to address them.

2.            Board Oversight – A designated Officer on Duty (OOD) will be present at all times.

·  The OOD has final authority on all conduct outside the fences.

·  One warning may be given depending on the severity of the issue.

·  Continued poor behavior will result in removal or ejection from the game and/or park (including the parking lot).

PROHIBITED CONDUCT

No Board Member, Manager, Coach, Player, or Spectator shall:

·         Physically touch, push, shove, strike, threaten, or feint to strike any individual.

·         Use violence, threats, abusive language, racial slurs, or personal insults.

·         Verbally or physically abuse any umpire, coach, player, or spectator.

·         Demonstrate dissent by throwing objects (e.g., gloves, bats, helmets) or acting aggressively.

·         Use unnecessarily rough tactics in play or against opponents.

·         Engage in physical altercations.

·         Use profane, obscene, or vulgar language.

·         Be on league property while intoxicated (odor of alcohol or inappropriate behavior qualifies as intoxication), or in possession of alcoholic beverages.

·         Gamble on any play or game outcome.

·         Smoke anywhere within park boundaries (City of Upland ordinance).

·         Publicly criticize players, officials, or coaches during games.

·         Speak disrespectful to any manager, coach, official, or league representative.

·         Tamper with league records, rosters, schedules, or financials.

·         Challenge an umpire’s authority. (Umpires have the discretion to remove offenders.)

PARENT CODE OF CONDUCT

Parents play a critical role in the success of our league.

The following code reinforces the values of respect, responsibility, fairness, and good citizenship.

As a UALL Parent, I Pledge To:

·         Encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, and officials.

·         Remember that the game is for children, not adults.

·         Avoid all unsportsmanlike conduct (booing, taunting, refusing handshakes, or using profanity).

·         Teach my child that doing their best is more important than winning.

·         Respect the authority of officials and coaches.
-I will never confront a coach during a game and will instead arrange a later time to discuss concerns.

·         Refrain from coaching my child or other players during games.

·         Never ridicule or yell at my child or others for mistakes or losses.

·         Promote the emotional and physical well-being of all players above personal desire to win.

·         Refrain from bringing or consuming alcoholic beverages at league events.

DISCIPLINARY ACTION

Failure to comply may result in one or more of the following, as determined by the UALL Board of Directors:

·         Verbal warning

·         Written warning

·         Suspension from games

·         Season suspension

·         Removal from all league activities

The Board of Directors retains sole authority to determine appropriate disciplinary actions.

MANAGER / COACH CODE OF CONDUCT

Managers and coaches are role models and leaders. Their words and actions shape how players, parents, and the community experience the game.

As a UALL Manager or Coach, I Pledge To:

·         Prioritize the emotional and physical well-being of players above personal desire to win.

·         Treat every player as an individual and respect differences in development.

·         Provide a safe, fun, and challenging environment for all players.

·         Lead by example in sportsmanship and fairness.

·         Teach players, parents, and officials the rules of the game.

·         Remember that Little League is for children, not adults.

·         Never abuse or disrespect umpires, coaches, parents, or players.

·         Promote fun, teamwork, and effort over winning.

·         Refrain from profanity or offensive language.

·         Encourage players to treat everyone with respect.

·         Foster a team-first attitude, not individual glory.

·         Comply with all league policies and return all issued equipment and evaluations on time.

DISCIPLINARY ACTION

Violations may result in one or more of the following, as determined by the UALL Board of Directors

·         Verbal warning

·         Written warning

·         Suspension from games

·         Season suspension

·         Removal from all league activities

The Board of Directors retains sole authority to determine appropriate disciplinary actions.

PLAYER CODE OF CONDUCT

Players represent the heart of UALL.

Their responsibility is to play hard, play fair, and show respect for the game and others.

As a UALL Player, I Pledge To:

·         Demonstrate good sportsmanship toward teammates, coaches, officials, and opponents.

·         Be a team player and support my teammates.

·         Attend and be on time for all practices and games.

·         Notify my coach if I cannot attend.

·         Work hard to improve my skills and listen to my coaches.

·         Encourage my parents to participate positively in league activities.

·         Congratulate opponents after games as a show of sportsmanship.

·         Refrain from violence, insults, or disrespectful behavior.

·         Be humble in victory and gracious in defeat.

·         Respect all rules and decisions made by officials.

·         Conduct myself with honor, integrity, and dignity.

·         Applaud the efforts of teammates and opponents alike.

DISCIPLINARY ACTION

Failure to follow the player code may result in:

·         Verbal warning

·         Written warning

·         Game suspension

·         Season suspension (including postseason play such as All-Stars or TOC)

·         Expulsion from the league

The Board of Directors retains sole authority to determine appropriate disciplinary actions.

EJECTIONS POLICY

Any Manager, Coach, or Spectator ejected from a game will be suspended for the remainder of that game and the following game.

Ejected individuals must immediately leave the field area and move beyond the parking lot.

All ejections are subject to review by the UALL Board of Directors.

Repeat or serious offenses may result in additional disciplinary measures, including suspension or expulsion from the league.
